I always thought that was a bad judgement. The title phrase is similar but you can't copyright such a universally recognized phrase. The music isnt very similar; the style is, but you can't copyright a style either. Many black artists were ripped off by some white guy in the music business; it just doesn't seem to have happened in this case

You could make a video on "Love Is in The Air" suing Glass Candy for simply having the song "Warm In The Winter" saying: "Love is in the Air" in it. Both songs sound nothing alike.

The award of $5 MILLION was crazy high. They are two different tracks, with different lyrics. At the very most, a small, but fair percentage of publishing could have been given. 100+ songs released in the USA have the same title. Stupid case this.

Can anyone find the Isley Brothers version of the song that matches ANY of the lyrics you can find on the web? All of the lyrics are more of Michael Bolton's version with slight variation. But when you listen to the Isley version, it doesn't come close to what is supposed to be those lyrics.

I just found out about this case, and I agree with most of the comments here, it was a horrible decision by the court. Michael Walsh of Time-"The two songs bear no resemblance in any significant musical way." 100% agree. Bolton's version is better too lol.

"The verdict's an utter travesty rendered by unmusical jurors. Aside from the fact that they have the same title, and the melody begins on the third note of the scale, the two songs bear no resemblance in any significant musical way." (Michael Walsh, Time Magazine)

Why would he even TRY this??? Just go into it with an upfront ask and offer!!! No one is gonna refuse an offer for a sound alike song with the same title….it's free money for an old old song!

Of course a video discrediting a white boy isn’t up here. But if it was some bs against a black man they would post everything. Michael Bolton was a thief. Fuck dude while legacy
