I bit too much focus on your prepared questions in my opinion . Always looking down and not keepin eye contact gives an impression of not being that involved of what is being said , but rather on what you want to ask. Again : my opinion.
Chester found his way to influencers apparently , since I 've seen a few recently of these interviews .
For the good of him, since I suppose a big marketing is not at hand .
    Lovely guy and great drummer.

Not so much into either Zappa, Genesis, or Thompson's style, but Chester's answers here were very interesting to me!
Especially about the role of the bass in british vs american music and his view on adapting to Phil Collins' playing and character.
(Kind of sad though that the interviewer wasn't nearly as interested as I was … ? 🤔😉)

THANK YOU! Chester has been the MOST influential Drummer in my own drumming. First what an amazing nice man. His Drumming is so musical, solid, metronomic, explosive. I cannot say enough. Thanks for doing this interview, great to see him. I could chat with him for days.

very nice interview, over all, let's get that out of the way.. but that last q was not the way to do it.. why are you directing a hearsay word to another drummer like that (from the same generation and very similar styles)? to me it also sounds terribly un-Bill'ish.. and you or us don't even know in which context he may have said even if he did.. and you are putting your guest in an understandably uncomfortable position.. a very bad way to ask a question I'm sorry to say

Great interview but what a click bait title. Maybe 30 seconds on his “disappointment,” if you can call it that, about Genesis. Also, maybe at least appear more interested in what this legend had to say instead of the constant looking down and mumbling uh huh uh huh over and over? I usually like this channel but this was a rare dud. Chester is the best!

Chester, a fantastic drummer 🥁 and a class act. Stopped respecting the “three” from Genesis because of the lack of respect shown to CT. I still like PG & SH. Saw Genesis with Chester, best show at the Savoy in Times Square, small theater and I was right up front touching the stage.

My gateway into Genesis was Three Sides Live, and I remember seeing an ad in Circus Magazine for Pearl drums featuring Chester. Not long after that, I saw the Three Sides Live MTV concert. I've always felt Chester to be an essential part of Genesis history.

Chester is a fabulous drummer. His drumkits with Genesis/Collins where huge and the way he had total command of the set and physically gave the impression he was on top of that kit is something I've never quiet seen before or after.
Regarding Calling all stations: kind of an open door question. What would have been more interesting to discuss is how he got involved with the Genesis family again after a decade of non-association because he wasn't touring with Phil Collins either in the 90ies (Ricky Lawson was).

Chester, you are a drumming hero and inspiration. You were perfect on Ripples in 2007 and on Tonight, Tonight, Tonight in 1987 – both are standout highlights for me. I was then stunned by your chops and delicate touch with The Chester Thompson Trio. You have also been a complete gentleman, and an example of how to behave with class, since Phil was out of order during Going Back live… but I won’t dwell on that! I saw you live many times with Genesis, and you literally never missed a beat. Thank you so much for the joy your playing has brought me.

I always liked Chester's way of playing Genesis' songs. Very complementary to what Phil recorded and also when playing alongside Phil. A lot of what they did together shaped my own approach to playing musically on the toms and changed the way I tune them. I was lucky enough to see Chester play with Genesis twice on the Mama tour. The man is a legend and seems to be a beautiful soul. God bless him.

I can't imagine what my playing would have evolved into without Chester's influence. He taught me soul, groove, taste, power and musical humility. I've never wanted to meet my heroes, but I wish I could simply shake his hand and thank him. He is easily on my "Mt. Rushmore' of drumming influences.

Chester is such a huge influence on me as a drummer. As much as I loved Phil's drumming, I find myself listening more to Chester's live playing. Genesis should have included Chester on Calling All Stations. Nick D'virgilio and Nir Z are great drummers, but Chester is the man! Additionally, his playing with Zappa and Weather Report was incredible! Also, he is a classy guy. He never speaks ill of other musicians.
